I’m Just Tired

We’re in Dallas TX now and attending meetings for two days. I love these things. I love chatting with people and learning new things. I love getting advice about ministry from people who have been there before. It’s been a great first day and I’m excited for more. The problem is, I’m just so tired.

I’m not just tired because we drove nine hours yesterday and didn’t make it to bed until way too late. I’m not tired because of meetings all day. I’m not even tired because of our youngest getting sick while we were there and having to go back to the hotel. All of that likely¬†contributed but I was tired before we got here.

Chances are you have! It’s likely you have been tired for most of your adult life. If you’re like me you work hard and play hard. You worry hard and family hard. You even eat hard and rest hard. Everything we do seems to be increasingly more urgent. It’s ridiculous. It’s dangerous and most likely unhealthy.

I heard someone say this once: “Don’t let what is¬†urgent distract you from what’s important.” My goodness I want God to help me live by that principle. I don’t want all the stuff that’s pulling at me all of the time to keep my so tired that I can’t be who I’m supposed to be for my family, my ministry, or the kingdom of God. I have to rest.

I don’t have a solution, I just wanted to confess that I’m tired and assure you that you’re not the only one. Maybe we can vow together that we’re going to be better at resting. Let’s work harder at saying no to what’s urgent so we can do what’s important.
