I’ve never heard a parent of adult children say: “I wish I had been less involved when my kids were growing up.” As I counsel parents after workshops or other ministry I never hear “I think I spent too much time with my kids” or “If only I had given them less of myself.” I’ve also never heard “My kids and family are a mess but that’s ok, I’ve been successful in other areas.”
When it’s all said and done nothing is more important than the relationships we’ve built in our own home. We are still at a missionary gathering in Dallas, TX. As we walked from the altar this morning after praying for our children one thought was echoing through my mind, “Whatever I do, I CAN’T mess up my relationship with my wife and kids.” I can afford to fail in almost every other area in my life but not that one. There is nothing more important than a healthy whole family.
So excuse me if you don’t see a blog post every day or a podcast episode every week. Our ministry Facebook Page and instagram may be abandoned for a few days here and there. I may not make as many booking phone calls as I should this week but there is a reason. Those things are fleeting, my family is not. When it comes to my wife and my children: “I CAN’T mess this up!”
