Today is a sad day for me. I am saying goodbye to a dear friend. Someone who has been with me during good times and during bad. A friend who was available to comfort me whenever I needed comforting no matter the time of day or night. Its sad to say goodbye but it’s just time.
You see, this friend and I don’t go back much more than a year and a half or so but it didn’t take long to become best of friends. This friend was introduced to me by my brother when he found that there was no place for it to stay. Usually it would cost quite a bit to obtain a friend like this but I was blessed by my brother and the lady giving this companion up for an updated version. So began a relationship that while lasting a mere 1.5 years made an impact on me that will last a lifetime.
Who is this friend you ask? Who could be so difficult to say goodbye to after only a year and a half relationship. Well, her name was Sony and she was a 48 inch rear projection TV. While older, she changed the way my family enjoyed television. No HD or LED or even plasma or LCD. Just a screen, one red lamp, one green lamp, and one blue lamp wrapped in a large particle board and plastic casing. I know it sounds old school but it was life changing.
It sounds a bit silly to describe my television as such a great friend but it really did hurt to roll it into the garage today. In fact I’ve been putting it off since the alighnment went out and I discovered it would cost too much for me to fix it. Its just a TV but it meant a lot to me.
How eye opening was it when I realized how important this material possession was to me. I guess I let myself care too much about STUFF sometimes instead of what’s really important. I know that God’s not up there jealous of my TV but I still want to put Him above everything else. Don’t you? Consider me convicted.
